Yukoro Onsen Niseko

Yukoro Onsen was for decades the go to spot for relaxation in Niseko, its mineral rich waters soothing away the aches and pains of powder hungry skiers who came to enjoy the onsen. Onsens in Niseko are no recent development and are said to have become popular as early as the early 1900's when settlement of the area began, long before the area was a ski resort. Around this time a railway began to service the area, increasing visitor numbers for the first time.

Steeped in history Yukoro onsen embraces its new futuristic look.

By the 1940s skiing in the area began and by the 1960s the first chair lifts were being built bringing visitors that were after more than just a relaxing spa. In 1972 the winter Olympics came to visit, cementing the area for the first time as an international destination. The 1980s welcomed the bubble era and more lifts and accommodation were built. Through all this Yukoro Onsen remained a keystone of the area until 2019 when it closed and not long after was demolished.

Fast forward to today and the onsen has been rebuilt in the same location and pleasingly has kept its original name further cementing Yukoro Onsen's place in Niseko's history. The new version spans two stories and will eventually include a large restaurant on the ground floor. With its prize second floor location you can take in views of Mount Yotei while enjoying the soothing waters.
