Niseko's First Olympic Silver Medalist
Olly Nicholls, 16 year old son of Holiday Niseko's Ashely Nicholls has recently returned from the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympics in Korea with not one but two silver medals. An incredible and well earned achievement for Olly who grew up skiing right here in Hirafu and has been actively competing for the last 5 years.
The story of a come back - Olly's first run in the Slopestyle scored just a 10.6 which was well short of what he needed to qualify. Then in his second run he snuck into qualification with a 73.0. With Olly now into the final it was another 3 runs to go with the best run counting for the finish. With two very respectable initial runs Olly then solidified his spot on the podium with his final run scoring a solid 85.75. This incredible run included rail mastery on a very challenging course and a textbook 1440 on the final jump. An amazing comeback from his first run in the qualifiers.
Olly's success continued in the big Air with his signature silky smooth style and effortless perfect landings. With strong qualifying runs putting Olly into the final things were looking good. In his first run Olly served up an incredible left double cork 1440 Mute grab and paved his way to the podium with a very respectable score of 86.0 for this. But it was his gravity defying switch 1260 double bio mute grab scoring the 88.65 that secured a silver medal and his place in Olympic history.
A huge congratulations to Olly and all of the Nicholls family for an achievement that will go down in Niseko and Holiday Niseko's history.
