Niseko winter predictions 2025/26
The authority most look to for a prediction on the season to come is Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) who are more often than not right on point with their predictions. So will we beat last winters whopping 15 meters with more powder days than you can shake a pole at?
If the JMA predictions are correct this could well happen as they are calling a higher than usual chance of above average snowfall for the winter. Signs are also pointed to a colder than average start to winter with significant early snowfall which might be why we are already reaching for the merino and could see us getting some truly epic early season turns!
La Niña Influence: According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the Pacific Ocean remains in a slightly La Niña-like state heading into early winter, which typically supports colder air and stronger northwesterly winds that drive frequent snow systems across the Sea of Japan into Hokkaido. So again odds are looking good for some exceptional weeks early on and a return to normal as the season progresses and anyone who's been here before will know normal in Niseko will often exceed exceptional!
Lifts at Niseko United are set to start spinning on November 29 which is a bit earlier than last year and might even turn out to be a powder day! Check out what to expect through the seasons here -
